My name is Kate Gray MSN RN. I work at Penn Medicine as the Senior Clinica Director in Radiation Oncology that includes 9 (and building) locations as well as serving as a consultant for our affiliates and development projects. I have the pleasure of overseeing the Nursing, Social Work and Registered Dietitian teams.
I went into nursing to serve others and to support and advocate for patients in their most vulnerable and difficult times in their lives. Much of my career was in pediatric oncology but I transitioned to adults when I began working in Radiation Oncology. I naturally went into management, first as a charge nurse, because I enjoy supporting others and knew what leadership meant as a college athlete and captain. My own cancer journey has helped me to keep the patients at the center of all decision making. My patient centered advocacy improved when I went from being “at” the beside to “in” the bed.
My favorite part of my job is being able to interact with so many different disciplines in Radiation Oncology and see others grow.
SROA has allowed me to meet others from across the country and beyond to share best practices and support each other. I enjoy meeting others in person at the SROA conference. While presenting can be nerve wracking, I value sharing the work that my team and I have accomplished.
Aside from work, I have a wonderful husband and 3 “spunky” girls who give me purpose. I enjoy exercising, especially with friends because it’s nonstop laughter. I love spending time at “The Shore” and spending time with others.
